About Zak

Zachary Bliss' boat building career started at the young age of 17 when he built a 12' wooden kayak in his high school shop class. Realizing that he had found his passion, he swiftly enrolled in the renowned Landing School of Boat Building and Design in Kennebunkport, Maine. After graduating he moved to Florida to work under the employment of Rybovich and Sons building custom wooden cold-molded sport fishing boats.

In 1998 he returned to his home in Shelter Island, New York. Zak then worked for Anders Langendal Boat Builder in Greenport, during that time he was responsible for all types of wooden boat projects; from small sailboats to classic schooners.

After three years with Anders Langendal, Zak started his own business to work on varied projects such as the new construction of a 19' Buzzard's Bay Sloop, a 16' Shearwater Pulling Boat, and a 17' Rangeley Lake Rowboat. Zak is currently occupied with rehabilitating two Herreshoff 121/2 (Doughdish) among other projects in his busy shop on Shelter Island.
